Penguin Cafe make Irish debut in opening concert of ESB LIVE 2014 at the National Concert Hall

On 25 April 2014, English band Penguin Café (born of Simon Jeffe’s Penguin Café Orchestra) make their Irish debut at the National Concert Hall as part of ESB LIVE 2014. Now in its 5th year, the festival features a range of national and international artists from 25 April to November 2014.

Today (Thursday 3 April 2014), the National Concert Hall announces its Summer@NCH Festival 2014 line-up to include headline act Rodrigo y Gabriela. The festival which runs from 24th June to the 16th of August also features a stunning line-up of Irish and International acts to include Irish band Altan, renowned Saharan band Tinariwen, ‘The Art of the Song: David Bowie’ featuring Lisa Hannigan, Duke Special and others, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® (as part of their Adios Tour), and Irish singer/songwriters Paul Brady and Sinéad O’Connor.

Lang Lang, the Danish String Quartet, Sir Simon Rattle with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, City of London Sinfonia and a Sunday Matinée Series…all part of the National Concert Hall’s 13/14 Season this Spring

The National Concert Hall’s 2013/2014 International Concert Series continues this Spring with a range of recitalists, duos, ensembles and orchestras including the City of London Sinfonia with clarinettist and conductor Michael Collins (12 April) Chinese pianist Lang Lang in a sold-out concert (19 April), the prized Danish String Quartet (22 April), and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Choir of Enlightenment with Sir Simon Rattle and guests performing Haydn’s Creation (4 May). It also features the Spring Sunday Matinée Series with Irish musicians, pianist Hugh Tinney and violinist Catherine Leonard (27 April, 11 and 25 May).

Clint Mansell and Chris Thile with Brad Mehldau added to the line-up for the National Concert Hall's flagship series, Perspectives 2014

Mansell is the acclaimed British film composer and long-time collaborator of ground-breaking director Darren Aronofsky for whom he has scored Black Swan , Requiem for a Dream , The Fountain, The Wrestler and Pi . In addition to his impressive work for film, Clint received major acclaim for his 2009 score for Duncan Jones’ directorial debut Moon . His latest creation is the soundtrack to the upcoming film Noah , starring Russell Crowe.

The National Concert Hall will play host to one of the most thrilling American musicians of his generation, Chris Thile of Punch Brothers in a new duo with the acclaimed pianist Brad Mehldau. The singer and mandolin virtuoso will perform on Sunday 9 November in a unique evening of music with Mehldau, one most lyrical and intimate voices of contemporary jazz piano. As a solo artist, band leader and collaborator (with artists such as Pat Metheny, Anne Sofie von Otter, Renée Fleming, and Joshua Redman), Mehldau continues to garner awards and admiration from both jazz purists and music enthusiasts alike.
