The National Concert Hall is a regular host of world-class, celebrity musicians. As well as performing to sold-out audiences across the world, many of these musicians are dedicated to music education and work with the Education & Outreach programme in providing first rate interactive experiences for music students and musicians across Ireland.

RTÉ and The National Concert Hall present A Leaving Certificate Guide to Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique

with full orchestra, computer technology and visuals
Presented by Paul Rissmann
Tickets: €10 per student. Complimentary for teachers.

Following last year’s Leaving Certificate Guide to Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet with the RTÉ NSO, we turn to Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique in this tailor-made concert presentation for Leaving Certificate music students. Working with the full forces of the orchestra and using computer technology to provide a visual guide to the music, Rissmann will pull Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique apart to uncover the curriculum concepts and provide clear listening posts for the students. This hour-long visual presentation will give students a deeper understanding of the piece and will end with a concert performance of of three movements from this epic work.

Hear the full work in Friday’s Main Season concert (28 February)

WhistleBlast Quartet

The WhistleBlast Quartet consists of four professional musicians Mary Curran (French Horn), Sile Daly (Oboe), Kenneth Edge (Saxophone) and Andrew Synnott (Piano). The National Concert Hall supports workshop visits to schools in the west of Ireland. Primary school pupils cover the three main strands of the curriculum during workshops: composing, listening and performing. They write their own compositions and the workshops culminate in a special concert for the whole community.
