NATIONAL CONCERT HALL ANNOUNCES BRYAN FERRY, PAUL NOONAN AND PENGUIN CAFÉ AS PART OF ESB LIVE 2014Today, 26 February 2014, ESB and the National Concert Hall are delighted to announce the line-up for this year’s ESB LIVE Series. Now in its 5th year, ESB Live is a series of 5 concerts featuring a range of truly great national and international musicians from April 25th to June 19th including; Roxy Music legend and musical icon Bryan Ferry (18th & 19th June), Bell X1’s front-man Paul Noonan with his solo project ‘Printer Clips’ (24th May) and Penguin Café making their Irish debut supported by Choice Music Prize nominee, Lisa O’Neill (25th April)*.
“The relationship between ESB and the National Concert Hall has evolved over the last 25 years and we are delighted to continue this partnership for ESB Live 2014. Each year the National Concert Hall celebrate the best in Irish and international music for unique performances and 2014 is sure to live up to this legacy with a series of great musical events,” according to Pat O’Doherty, ESB Chief Executive.
Simon Taylor, CEO of the National Concert Hall said: “The enlightened and imaginative support of the ESB has enabled the National Concert Hall to present an annual series of landmark concerts that enriches our music programme and gives our audience the chance to hear some of the world’s most iconic artists”.
The series starts with Penguin Café making their Irish debut on April 25th supported by Lisa O’Neill. Penguin Café's music has infiltrated daily life with their music featuring in a range of popular films and performances at festivals and events including Bestival, The Big Chill and a sold-out BBC Proms at Royal Albert Hall. Their sound is at once familiar and new, combining acoustic power and a beguiling, feisty charm. Penguin Cafè released their new album ‘The Red Book’ in February 2014. The culmination of two years’ work, ‘The Red Book’ sees Arthur Jeffes - son of original composer and Penguin Cafè Orchestra founder Simon Jeffes - investigate whole new areas of sound and vibrancy, alongside his eclectic collection of musicians and characters.
On the May 24th, ESB LIVE 2014 will première Paul Noonan’s new project, ‘Printer Clips’. Taking shape from a collection of duets written by Paul, ‘Printer Clips’ showcases intimate, simple recordings of performances in hallways, basements and bedrooms in Montreal, New York, Dublin and London. The show features guest artists: Lisa Hannigan, Gemma Hayes, Danielle Harrison, Cathy Davey, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Caoimhín O'Raghallaigh.
Making a welcome return to Ireland following his sell-out show in 2013, Roxy Music icon Bryan Ferry brings his new show ‘Bryan Ferry with Strings’ to Ireland for the first time on June 18th and 19th. His new show sees Ferry present new orchestral arrangements of both Roxy Music and solo works accompanied by his band and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
ESB LIVE has become a highlight in the National Concert Hall’s Calendar of events and continues to attract the best of Irish and international artists to a national stage bringing the power of music to new audiences. Now in its fifth year, ESB LIVE has featured some of the world’s most exhilarating and talented artists at the National Concert Hall including Pink Martini, Bell X1, Ludovico Einaudi, Stockton’s Wing, Julie Feeney, Cerys Matthews, Dervish, Clannad, Anuna, Afrocelt Soundsystem, and Jack L.
