Open call for deputy musicians

The National Symphony Orchestra invites applications from experienced and collaborative musicians to expand its existing list of Deputy Players. Engagements will be offered on a part-time, fixed-term, or fixed-purpose freelance basis. This opportunity is exclusively open to Irish musicians or those domiciled on the island of Ireland. 

The role:

  • Maintaining the highest standard of professional performance, musical and artistic excellence required by the Orchestra.
  • Familiarise oneself with the relevant parts, in advance of the first rehearsal and performances.
  • Professionally support the Section Leader and all other members of the NSO.
  • Take direction regarding style, intonation, balance, ensemble and rhythm.
  • Foster an environment in which artistic excellence flourishes.
  • Develop and support positive working relationships with all other members of the Orchestra, and any freelance players engaged by the Orchestra.
  • To work in accordance with NCH Health and Safety guidelines and policy.


Requirements:

  • Excellent performing abilities, maintaining the highest musical standards.
  • To be an effective and committed team player and to play a full role in the life of the Orchestra.
  • Knowledge of the range of repertoire of the National Symphony Orchestra.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and develop harmonious working relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Commitment to maintaining the reputation of the Orchestra.
  • Strong mental and physical discipline – travel, rehearsal, live performance in concert (radio/TV) and recording sessions and anti-social working hours.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.

The NSO has a 7-day liability including weekends and public holidays and therefore flexibility is essential. There will be a requirement for the postholder to work in other locations outside of the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

Working hours can fall between 08.00am and 12pm. Applicants must be available during the daytime, evenings and weekends.

This opportunity is open only to Irish musicians or those domiciled on the island of Ireland.

As this is a seasonal, freelance contract, hours are variable and cannot be guaranteed.

  • Tutti €173.73
  • Sub-Principal €188.18
  • Principal €204.05

STAGE 2: Shortlisting - Your online submission will be assessed by the NSO shortlisting panel against pre-determined criteria.  If successful, you will be notified that you have been added to our list of deputy musicians in due course.
