The National Concert Hall is delighted to announce three intimate concerts by revered Irish music pioneer Christy Moore next April and May. The concerts follow on from the release of exceptional album A Terrible Beauty on Claddagh Records, which has received glowing reviews. The 13-track album includes the singles ‘Boy in the Wild’ and ‘Black & Amber’, the latter of which was written by Brian Brannigan of A Lazarus Soul, who also wrote album track ‘Lemon Sevens’.

Since 1969 Christy has played a pivotal role in the evolution of music on this island. He has shone a light on Irish culture, identity and tradition by bringing his songs to the global stage. His concerts continue to sell out both at home and abroad, where his music continues to resonate strongly with the diaspora and beyond.

His recording career includes more than 40 albums from Paddy on the Road (1969) to his current opus via the recent chart-topping Early Years, covering his recordings and television appearances from 1969-1981. In 2021 he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the RTÉ Folk Awards.

His latest album A Terrible Beauty features stories of resilience, memory, and social struggle which weave together across its tracks, blending personal reflections with broader societal critiques. From the powerful meditation on conflict and defiance in ‘Sunflowers’, an ode to Ukraine, it moves through tributes to historic figures and tragic events, such as Ann Lovett and Lyra McKee. Songs like ‘The Big Marquee’ and ‘Cumann na Mná’ celebrate The Rebel County and the Ireland Women’s Football Team respectively in Christy’s signature tongue-in-cheek style, while tracks like ‘Palestine’ and ‘Snowflakes’ call out injustice and hate.

One of the most compelling and inspirational musicians Ireland has ever seen, Christy’s concerts at the National Concert Hall are amongst the most special concerts of the year.
