The National Concert Hall Announces A Solo Evening of Music with Chris Thile as Part of the Perspectives Series
- Perspectives: Grammy Award-winning Artist Chris Thile
- National Concert Hall, Main Stage
- Wednesday 19 November 8pm
- Tickets from €15 www.nch.ie On Sale 10am Friday 28 March
The National Concert Hall is proud to present the return of acclaimed mandolinist, singer, songwriter, composer, and MacArthur Fellow recipient of the prestigious ‘Genius Grant’, Chris Thile on Wednesday 19 November at 8pm. This expansive performance will feature selections from Chris’ celebrated solo recordings of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas – including the upcoming second volume out this autumn – alongside his signature mix of classical, folk and improvisational brilliance.
Thile returns to the NCH following a spectacular performance with Nickel Creek in 2023 in support of the revered release Celebrants. The show captivated audiences with a playfully ambitious biographical composition entitled ATTENTION! (a narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra).
Hailed as a ‘genre-defying musical genius’ by NPR, in addition to his solo career and Nickel Creek, Thile is a founding member of the highly influential string band Punch Brothers. He has collaborated with countless luminaries from Yo-Yo Ma to Fiona Apple to Brad Mehldau. For four years, Thile hosted public radio favorite Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly known as A Prairie Home Companion).
With his broad outlook, Thile creates a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike, giving the listener ‘one joyous arc, with the linear melody and vertical harmony blurring into a single web of gossamer beauty’ (New York Times).

About the National Concert Hall
The National Concert Hall (NCH) is Ireland’s national cultural institution for music, proudly serving the Irish public since it opened in 1981 through live music performances and significant educational and cultural programmes. Based in the heart of Dublin’s city centre, next door to the picturesque Iveagh Gardens, the NCH is proud home to our National Symphony Orchestra, as well as providing residence for a range of other music organisations including Chamber Choir Ireland, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Music Network, Crash Ensemble and Music Generation. It is currently planning for a major redevelopment of all facilities as part of the National Development Plan and Project Ireland 2040.

Tá an Ceoláras Náisiúnta bródúil as fáilte ar ais a chur roimh Chris Thile, maindilíneoir, amhránaí, scríbhneoir amhrán, cumadóir, agus faighteoir Chomhaltacht MacArthur (‘Genius Grant’), Dé Céadaoin, 19 Samhain, ag 8pm. Sa léiriú fairsing seo beidh roghnúcháin ó thaifeadtaí aonair iomráiteacha Chris de Sonatas agus Partitas Bach – lena n-áirítear an dara himleabhar atá le teacht amach an fómhar seo – in éineacht lena mheascán sínithe de ghile chlasaiceach, tíre agus tobchumtha.
Filleann Thile ar an NCH tar éis feidhmíocht iontach le Nickel Creek in 2023 chun tacú leis an eisiúint molta go hard, Celebrants. Tharraing an seó lucht féachana le comhdhéanamh beathaisnéiseach spraíúil uaillmhianach dar teideal ATTENTION! (Sraith amhrán a insíonn scéal, ina bhfuil maindilíneoir fuinniúil agus ceolfhoireann.).
‘Ghéin ceoil a sháraíonn seánraí,’ dar le NPR. Tá Thile ina bhall bunaitheach den bhanna sreinge tionchair Punch Brothers, in éineacht lena chuid oibre agus ama aonair le Nickel Creek. D’oibrigh sé le go leor ealaíontóirí mór le rá, lena n-áirítear Yo-Yo Ma, Fiona Apple, agus Brad Mehldau. Ar feadh ceithre bliana, d’óstáil Thile an seó raidió móréilimh "Live from Here le Chris Thile" (A Prairie Home Companion roimhe seo).
Leis an gcur chuige leathan atá aige, tá Thile ag múnlú stíl nua ceoil Mheiriceá a spreagann taibheoirí agus lucht féachana araon. Déanann an New York Times cur síos ar a chuid oibre mar “sreabhadh lúcháireach amháin, ina meascann séis agus comhchuibheas ina iomláine íogair agus álainn.”
