On Tuesday 26th of November at 8pm, the National Concert Hall presents ‘Dark Blue: ANOHNI Sings Lou Reed’, a set celebrating the music of Lou Reed, her friend and collaborator, in her NCH debut.

A British-born, New York City based singer, songwriter and visual artist, ANOHNI is best known as the lead singer of ANOHNI and the Johnsons. Her albums I Am a Bird Now (2005) and Hopelessness (2016) were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. In 2016, ANOHNI’s composition ‘Manta Ray’ from the film Racing Extinction was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. ANOHNI’s most recent album My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross was named album of the year by The New Yorker.

ANOHNI’s relationship with Lou Reed stretches back over two decades. In 2003, she was a supporting vocalist on the  Animal Serenade tour and performed on a number of tracks on Reed’s Edgar Allan Poe-inspired album The Raven. In 2006/2007 she sang backing vocals for Reed’s first full performance of Berlin in New York and Sydney. In addition, Reed contributed vocals and guitar to ‘Fistful of Love’ from I Am a Bird Now.

On March 6th 2013, ANOHNI invited Lou Reed to join her in singing ‘Candy Says’ during an encore at Salle Pleyel in Paris, at what would be his last public performance. ANOHNI’s song ‘Sliver of Ice’ describes her final interaction with the legendary singer and poet.

Having worked in genres ranging from electronic experimental to avant classical, dance and soul, ANOHNI’s music has been characterized above all by her affecting voice. Across her 30-year career ANOHNI has forged a singular path through popular music, pioneering a vigorous examination of societal structures, spirituality, and our relationship with the biosphere.
