ART-icle 12: Empowering Very Young Voices through the Arts

ART-icle 12 is a creative initiative dedicated to empowering very young children with physical disabilities, helping them find their voice, express their views, and be heard by responsive adults. This arts-based programme brings weekly, long-term creative sessions to early years students at the Central Remedial Clinic School, offering a child-centered, multi-sensory experience across various art forms.

At the core of ART-icle 12 is a commitment to child-led exploration, where children have the freedom to guide their creative journeys. Through these activities, they engage with new, interactive sculptural artworks that foster movement-based (kinaesthetic) learning, encouraging growth, expression, and self-discovery.

Spring & Summer 2025 Free Workshops for Families

ART-icle 12 will extend its reach in 2025 by offering free workshops for families with very young children with physical disabilities across Ireland. These workshops, held in collaboration with arts organisations across Ireland, will allow families to connect with a team of trained carers and enjoy meaningful creative experiences together.

Led by the collaborative duo of artist Helen Barry and educator Audrey Fagan, ART-icle 12 puts the principles of Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into action, emphasising every child’s right to be heard and respected.
