Get Happy! The Judy Garland Songbook
Often described as the world’s greatest entertainer, Judy Garland left an impressive legacy as a showbusiness giant on screen, in concert and on record. From unforgettable film performances in The Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St Louis and A Star is Born, to her record-breaking live appearances, where she packed out New York’s Palace Theatre, Carnegie Hall and the London Palladium over and over again, Judy Garland epitomized what it meant to be a living legend.
Glittering American vocalist Joan Ellison has performed her Judy Garland concerts with symphony orchestras from coast to coast in the USA to rave critical acclaim. She now makes her European debut, bringing Judy Garland’s magic to life in a concert that’s sure to make you “. . .forget your troubles and just get happy!”
As well as singing Judy’s iconic repertoire with style and authenticity, Joan has restored Judy’s original symphonic arrangements for this nostalgic trip from Technicolor Hollywood to Carnegie Hall!
The hit parade includes: The Trolley Song • The Man That Got Away • Get Happy • Come Rain or Come Shine • Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart • Stormy Weather • The Boy Next Door • Chicago • That's Entertainment and of course, Over the Rainbow.
Joan Ellison is joined by dynamic Irish conductor Niall Kinsella, who brought you the sold-out concerts The Sound of Rodgers & Hammerstein (2023) and The Sound of Hollywood: The Best of MGM Musicals (2024), and the stunning sound of The Niall Kinsella Orchestra.
Praised for her "vocal prowess . . . [and] organic grasp of the classic songs" by Michael Feinstein, Joan Ellison has made a specialty of reviving Judy Garland’s repertoire from the golden Hollywood years to her Carnegie Hall concert and television show, including reconstructing Ms. Garland’s glorious original orchestrations in cooperation with the Judy Garland Heirs Trust. Of her NYC solo cabaret show at Feinstein’s/54 Below, Cabaret Scenes Magazine wrote: “[Joan is] Judy-esque in appearance and . . . a near voice double for her idol.” Joan made her Cleveland Pops Orchestra debut in 2005 and has since sung with more than 70 symphony orchestras across the USA.
