Lights, camera… strike up the band! Where would the movies be without music?
From Hollywood’s Golden Age of adventure to today’s fantasy and sci-fi epics, Cinema Spectacular, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra, with the renowned film music conductor Anthony Gabriele as special guest, celebrates Hollywood’s greatest composers and scores with all the romance, poetry, drama and stirring heroics of some of the Silver Screen’s most unforgettable films.
The glory days of film music are conjured in unforgettable themes by some of the giants who created the grand, sweeping Hollywood sound: Max Steiner (Gone With the Wind), Erich Korngold (The Adventures of Robin Hood) and Miklós Rózsa (Ben Hur).
There’s heart-on-sleeve romance from John Barry (Out of Africa) and Henry Mancini’s ‘Moon River’ from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, stirring drama from Ernest Gold (Exodus) and Maurice Jarre (Lawrence of Arabia), and all the thrills and spills of the Wild West in Elmer Bernstein’s The Magnificent Seven.
Masters of the modern era include Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future), James Horner (Braveheart), Ennio Morricone (Cinema Paradiso), and the colossal achievements of John Williams with his music from two of the most successful film franchises ever: Star Wars and Harry Potter.
