Today (Thursday 3 April 2014), the National Concert Hall announces its Summer@NCH Festival 2014 line-up to include headline act Rodrigo y Gabriela. The festival which runs from 24th June to the 16th of August also features a stunning line-up of Irish and International acts to include Irish band Altan, renowned Saharan band Tinariwen, ‘The Art of the Song: David Bowie’ featuring Lisa Hannigan, Duke Special and others, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® (as part of their Adios Tour), and Irish singer/songwriters Paul Brady and Sinéad O’Connor.
On 24th of June, acoustic rock maestros Rodrigo y Gabriela take to the National Concert Hall stage which coincides with the launch of their new album: '9 Dead Alive'. Recorded in Mexico, the album captures the warmth and spontaneity of two great musicians riffing and jamming together; perfectly distilled into nine new songs teeming with desire, elegance and gusto. Many will know their music from the soundtracks to both 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Shores' and 'Puss N' Boots'.
On 1st of July renowned Saharan band Tinariwen, whose 2011 album ‘Tassili’ won Grammy Award for Best World Music, will perform with music that reverberates far from the dusty plains of Mali.
On 19th of July, Irish traditional music ensemble Altan, described by the Boston Globe as ‘the hottest group in the Celtic realm’, will no doubt bring their inimitable style and musicality to the National Concert Hall, led by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (fiddle & vocals). She will be joined by Mark Kelly (guitar), Dermot Byrne (accordion), Dáithí Sproule (guitar), Ciaran Tourish (fiddle), and Ciarán Curran (bouzouki).
On 26th of July, ‘The Art of the Song: David Bowie’ concert will feature some of the National Concert Hall’s ‘Artist Writing Space’ project residents, as well as some of Dublin’s innovators and most acclaimed singers including Lisa Hannigan, Duke Special, Jape, Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh and more as they pay tribute to the work of modern music master David Bowie for this unique event.
On 2nd of August, after 16 years of thrilling audiences around the world, the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® is set to bid ‘Adios’ with a farewell world-tour to include a stop-off at the National Concert Hall. The Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® grew out of the 1997 release of the Grammy-winning best-selling album Buena Vista Social Club™. Many of those who performed in the original line-up will perform in their farewell tour concerts under the musical direction of band leader and trombonist Jesus Aguaje Ramos making this a historical and significant event not to be missed.
On 9th of August, Irish singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Paul Brady will take to the stage with his band to perform a back catalogue of his most celebrated works. He is one of Ireland’s most enduringly popular and acclaimed artists who has worked with a range of performers including Carole King, Ronan Keating, Conner Reeves, Christy Moore and more.
From one Irish singer/songwriter to another; on 16 of August Sinéad O’Connor presents a concert entitled 'The Vishnu Room' for Irish audiences. (It is also the title of her new album due for release in late August). For her National Concert Hall performance, Sinead sings songs from a career spanning twenty-five years and millions of records sales worldwide backed by her band.
