Singer China Forbes to star with PINK MARTINI at the National Concert Hall
The National Concert Hall is delighted to welcome back the American band Pink Martini featuring their original vocalist China Forbes, on Sunday 2 November 2014 as part of ESB LIVE 2014.
The 12-piece ensemble from Portland Oregon, founded by Harvard graduate and classically trained pianist Thomas Lauderdale, are no strangers to Irish audiences having performed 3 sold-out concerts at the Hall in the past to rave reviews.
The Sun said ‘Classy, charming, sexy, elegant, sophisticated; take your pick to describe the globe-trotting eclectic mix that is Pink Martini’.
Their most recent album, titled Get Happy, was released September 2013 and features China Forbes and Storm Large along with special guests Rufus Wainwright, The von Trapps and Ari Shapiro.
Many of the hits for which Pink Martini are renowned were written by Forbes and Lauderdale after the band was formed in 1995 such as “Sympathique”, “Lilly”, “Clementine”, “Let’s Never Stop Falling in Love”, “Over the Valley” and most recently “A Snowglobe Christmas” which can be heard on Pink Martini’s holiday album Joy to the World. Forbe’s original song “Hey Eugene” is the title track of Pink Martini’s third album.
Their repertoire is widely diverse, drawing on music from around the world, Lauderdale claims: “at one moment you feel like you’re in the middle of a samba parade in Rio de Janeiro and in the next, you’re in a French music hall of the 2930s or a palazzo in Napoli. It’s a bit like an urban musical travelogue”.
