Irish pianist Barry Douglas returns to the National Concert Hall with Camerata Ireland for a special afternoon performance

The National Concert Hall is delighted to announce the welcome return of pianist Barry Douglas on Sunday 9 November at 3pm to perform in the second of the Sunday Matinée Series concerts. He will be accompanied by the reputable Camerata Ireland with whom he is the Artistic Director and General Manager.

The programme for the afternoon will include Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Piano Concerto No. 14 in E flat K449 by Mozart, Shostakovich’s Romance from The Gadfly (with violin soloist) and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

Barry is not only well-known to Irish audiences but his name is instantly recognised in the most prestigious concert halls throughout the world. In 1986, he became one of only two non-Russians to have won outright the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow. Since then he has performed and recorded with the world's leading orchestras and conductors in most of the great concert venues.

In 1999 Barry founded Camerata Ireland as he had a vision to bring together the finest Irish musicians and create a chamber orchestra of excellence to match the best in the world. The orchestra has gone on to win great acclaim, giving performances throughout the USA, Europe and Asia. They were also one of the few chamber orchestras to be invited to be resident in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.

The orchestra had their debut concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall during their 4th major tour of the United States in March 2011. Later that year, they were invited to perform for the (former) President of Ireland, Mary McAleese and Her Majesty the Queen, as part of the latter’s historic State visit to Ireland.

The Sunday Matinée Series is supported by the Irish Times and RTÉ Lyric FM.
