Grammy award-winning Mezzo Soprano Angelika Kirchschlager to perform in final Sunday Matinée Series concert of autumn 2014Austrian mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager will perform with pianist James Sherlock, at the National Concert Hall on Sunday 23 November at 3pm in the last of the autumn season concerts of the Sunday Matinée Series . Angelika enjoys an international career as one of the most important vocal artists performing today and is recognised as one of the foremost interpreters of Richard Strauss and Mozart.
She is a celebrated recitalist and concert performer whose repertoire reaches from Bach to Berlioz, and Debussy to Dvořák; her programme for the afternoon performance will include Brahms, Schubert, Strauss and Liszt.
The Grammy award-winning artist has released a variety of CDs and DVDs which have won numerous accolades; in 2013 she won the prestigious BBC Music Magazine Award for her recording of Liszt. She received the European Cultural Award for her contributions to classical music on stage and as a teacher keeping the fascination of classical music alive for the younger generations.
Angelika is a frequent guest on the most prestigious stages such as La Scala in Milan, the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Opera Bastille in Paris, the Vienna State Opera, the Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Boston Symphony Hall as well as Wigmore Hall and Barbican Centre in London.
Angelika Kirchschlager’s recital is part of the Dublin Song Series, curated by Dearbhla and Finghin Collins in association with the National Concert Hall and Sundays at Noon Concert Series at Dublin City Gallery, Hugh Lane.
The Chamber Music Series at the National Concert Hall is supported by the Irish Times and RTE Lyric FM.
