Best-known for her single I Try the multi Grammy, Billboard, MTV and Brit Award winning singer and actress Macy Gray will perform for Irish audiences on Sunday 2nd July 2017. With record sales of over 25 million worldwide, Macy Gray’s music transcends genres, from experimental soul and alternative rock to retro disco and hip-hop.
Just last year the American R&B, jazz and soul singer, songwriter and producer changed labels to record and produce Stripped, released on Chesky Records. It garnered unanimous praise from critics and the album debuted at #3 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. Listen to the full album on Spotify
Her debut album, On How Life Is, released in 1999 won her worldwide recognition. In 2001 she won a Grammy for the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her second single, "I Try," which was also nominated for Song of the Year. She went on to release her second and third studio albums, The Id and The Trouble with Being Myself, winning her fans across Europe. Her greatest hits album, Very Best of Macy Gray was released in 2004. Justin Timberlake, Fergie and Natalie Cole all collaborated with Gray on her sixth album, Big, which was heralded as a comeback album, receiving much critical praise.
In March of 2012 she released Covered, with songs by bands like the Eurythmics, Radiohead and Arcade Fire and went on to release a reinterpretation of Stevie Wonder’s 1972 album, Talking Book, later that year. This was followed up in 2014 with The Way.
In addition to singing, Gray launched an acting career and has appeared in the 2012 movie The Paperboy alongside Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman. Gray also appeared in several TV shows and movies, including Training Day with Denzel Washington, and Shadowboxer with Cuba Gooding Junior and has made cameo appearances as herself in films such as Spider-Man (2002) and the television drama Ally McBeal.
