Thursday 4th and 11th of September @ 2.15pm
The Iveagh Gardens are among the finest, and yet least known, of all Dublin parks and are ideal for an afternoon stoll to take you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. On each of the four Wednesdays in May Friends have the chance to be guided through the Iveagh Gardens by craft gardener and horticultural expert, Donal Raynor, who will show us the highlights and tell us the history of Dublins hidden gem. We will then go inside to gain a real insight into the workings of the National Concert Hall itself seeing backstage and hearing more about the grand rooms you have come to know and love.

‘Aspects of life and death in the Irish Early Neolithic (3900–3500 BC )’
Wednesday 15th October @ 11.30am
In Conversation with Professor George Eogan and Helen Roche We are fortunate to have excellent archaeological evidence for both houses and tombs from this formative period. The earliest megalithic tombs show a shared common belief system, while their large rectangular houses portray another aspect of their settled lifestyles. By examining both monument types, through their architecture, associated finds and distribution, a surprisingly full understanding of the lifestyle of these early people can be constructed. In this talk our knowledgeable facilitators will talk us through how Irish archaeological finds paint for us a vivid picture of daily life giving us real insight into the social existence of those who came before us. Ticket includes:Tea/Coffee in the Carolan Room at the National Concert Hall
Friends: €15 (Non-members €20)
